Just after the recent and now notorious Barnet Council meeting about cutbacks, I and a friend had cause to speak to one of our local Hendon councillors.
They hold a surgery on the first Monday of each month and as far as I am aware, coordinate these surgeries between them.
Last time we attended a surgery, during the furore over councillors’ increased allowances, some months ago, we waited with other members of the public and no one showed up.
The same happened this time. We left a polite note with the reception at the town hall, to which we have yet had no response.
This is worrying and disgraceful. Residents — the people who voted these councillors in — are granted one hour a month for advice and information.
Yet contemptuously, the councillors can’t be bothered to show or worse, forget or fail to coordinate the simplest of rotas, while claiming to be able to organise, cut and coordinate a multi-million-pound budget.
