THE borough is set to receive £420,000 funding to repair roads damaged after last winter’s cold snap.

Barnet Council has agreed to publish details on its website depicting how and where the money is being spent by September.

The funding was realised after Wednesday’s Budget when George Osborne announced emergency financial support would be made available to local authorities to help fix roads.

The amount, one of the highest in London, reflects Barnet’s size and number of roads and will come from the £200million provided by the Coalition Government.

MP for Finchley and Golders Green, Mike Freer said: “We had another hard winter last year and it has taken a toll on local roads.

“As we all know finances are tight but because the Government has already taken tough spending decisions it is able to free up money quickly.

“Barnet Council should be able to use these funds immediately and will be transparently showing exactly where it is being spent.”

The capital will receive £10.2million in total which the Government will begin distributing from Monday.
