I was pleased to read Barnet Council’s budget meeting passed relatively peacefully.
Contrast that to the pandemonium in Haringey where a policewoman was intimidated, or the furore in Camden which closed the Euston Road.
A major part in this is because we have a businesslike council that is knuckling down and making the savings it needs to, as opposed to a left-wing administration busy whipping up anti-Government sentiment.
Barnet is continuing to empty our bins weekly, support our schools and has kept the council tax at zero per cent again.
It is contributing to the savings which have to be made in local government thanks to Labour’s national mess, without resorting to political blackmail.
And there was no riot at its budget meeting and no road closed.
