Members of the Dollis Park & District Residents Association have drawn attention to a letter they received from Councillor Eva Greenspan and her colleagues, soliciting support for the Avenue House Estate Trust (AHET) in its present financially beleaguered state.
Cllr Greenspan appears to have forgotten that in 2007, she and her then councillors resigned from the Avenue House board, which subsequently altered its constitution removing all Barnet Council’s representation from the board.
The Avenue House estate was given to the people of Finchley by Inky Stephens in perpetuity in his will, and the presence of the public’s representatives on the board appeared to be an appropriate and necessary factor in the implementation of the good man’s wishes.
The reasons for the removal of our councillors from AHET have never been properly explained, thus before making any financial contribution towards the rescue of AHET, the association would like to see a measure of accountability restored to this oligarchic institution.
