THE Government should intervene to kick out a group of squatters who have taken residence in a mansion belonging to the Gaddafi family in Hampstead Garden Suburb.
Councillor Brian Coleman has made the call in his capacity as Barnet and Camden London Assembly member after the group calling themselves Topple the Tyrants moved in yesterday.
The £11m eight-bedroom home bought by Saif Gaddafi in 2009 was put on the market last month, but taken off last week after the Government froze the family’s assets.
Cllr Coleman said: “The Foreign Secretary (William Hague) should take action immediately to seize Gaddafi’s son's house in Hampstead Garden Suburb in my constituency.
“The squatters, who are a blight to the area, should be evicted and moved-on to protect the nearby residents.”
In January Cllr Coleman described some residents from the area, who emailed him angry at huge increases in parking charges, as “hysterical” and “over the top” in a council meeting.
Last month Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer made a call for the Government to freeze the Gaddafi assets to stop them fleeing to this country.
