THE council’s housing management firm is offering three apprenticeship schemes for young people looking to get experience in the workplace.

Barnet Homes has teamed up with the Apollo Group and Avonline to create the three opportunities for people from the borough.

Two are with the Apollo group, who are undertaking the £9.5m overhaul of the Granville Road tower blocks in Cricklewood, suitable for people studying NVQs in electrics and plumbing.

The opportunity with Avonline is with a team carrying out installation of digital TV systems at council homes and blocks across the borough to prepare for next year’s digital switchover.

Barnet Homes chief executive Tracey Lees said: “We want to ensure the benefits of our various programmes aren’t just limited to the residents who live in our homes or blocks.

“We also want there to be long-lasting benefits to the wider community, so we strongly encourage our contractors to offer job and training opportunities. That’s particularly important in the current economic climate.

People interested in the Apollo positions should call Deborah Beckford on 020 8359 5307 or email deborah.beckford@barnethomes.org. The application form is available through Barnet Homes’ website at www.barnethomes.org. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 22 March.
