A WAR veteran who was targeted by vandals for displaying a Union Jack outside his home in East Barnet is once again displaying his flag with pride.
Fred Penning of Crescent Rise had human excrement smeared across his front door and walls in an attack on February 10.
A 15ft pole was also destroyed, as the offenders ripped down and stole a British flag from the front garden of the pensioner's bungalow.
Royal Air Forces Association provided Mr Penning, who served in Burma during the Second World War, with a new base and put in a new flag pole for him.
The 87-year-old can continue to display the flag which he has done for more than four years in the cul-de-sac.
He believes the culprits did not specifically target him, but rather the symbol of the Union Jack.
The grandfather was “quite disgusted” by the incident and said “everyone is entitled to their flag for whichever country or religion they belong to.”
