POLICE in Barnet have donated £2900 to the Sea Training Corps in Hendon to fund a safety boat.
The Sea Training Corps, based in Cool Oak Lane, West Hendon, started off as the Sea Cadet Training Corps before changing to the Training ship HMS Broadsword Sea Training Corps in 1991 and was adopted by Barnet Council.
The boat will be used to teach cadets the use of powerboats and assist with the safety of everyone on the water when using the sailing boats, rowing and canoeing.
Chief Inspector Simon Causer said: “This is a golden opportunity to give some money through the Metropolitan Police to a worthwhile cause.
"HMS Broadsword Sea Training Corps will put the cash to good use and provide a range of sports, team work and discipline to Barnet youths."
Cmdr Gerald Beck MBE of the Sea Training Corps said: “We are raising funds towards a MFV Cheverton safety boat.
"We are most grateful to the Metropolitan Police both for the cheque and for their active staff engagement.”
