What a pleasure for those who can still use coins and press a button to receive a ticket to park their car.
People of Barnet are denied this.
Recently, I gave up looking for parking meters that had not been blocked off and plastered with signs telling me to use a mobile phone to pay for parking with a credit card.
I finally used my mobile to complete a complex registration and gave my card details to some company and was then grossly over-charged for ten minutes’ parking.
Just then, an elderly couple approached, explaining they didn’t have a mobile and could not find a “working meter”. Like me, they had books to return to Hendon Library and wanted to borrow more, but they could do nothing but go home.
People should petition to remove these meters from our borough. Several traders in Finchley and Hendon say this system is bad for business and would be prepared for petitions to be placed in their shops.
