I read the article about my neighbour’s dog Milly, (‘Pet killed in hit-and-run’, Barnet & Potters Bar Times, February 24).

For approximately two years, I have been speaking to Barnet Council, community support police officer Chris Ramdeen and Councillors, Peter Knell and John Donne regarding the speeding traffic in Elmfield Road, Potters Bar.

It is such a shame poor Milly is the first fatality as the result of the problems we endure in this road.

Apart from vehicles thundering down as though it’s a motorway, I have witnessed several driving on the pavement, reluctant to give way to one another, owing to the selfish parking of one particular resident.

We also have to contend with the PB1 bus thundering up and down every ten minutes.

The police brought a speed board and placed it outside my house. However, the high-visibility car and jackets soon slowed the racers before they were “clocked”.

Early morning and early evenings are usually worse — very worrying when we have pupils walking to nearby schools at these times. I know many other residents are also very concerned.

I have given councillors the information they require, the rest is up to them.

I was asked to get a petition together, but as they are very keen to knock on doors when election day is due, shouldn’t they do this?
