THE cost of getting married at a registry office in Edgware is set to increase next month.

Councillors agreed to hike up wedding fees at Burnt Oak registry office from April 1 at a committee resources meeting on Wednesday.

The council’s report notes the current fees are lower than neighbouring authorities and do not cover the costs of providing the service.

Couples can expect to see prices go up from £40 to £100 on Mondays and Tuesdays and from £90 to £100 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Friday weddings will increase from £90 to £125 and Saturdays, a popular day at the registry office, will go up from £150 to £180.

The fees have been brought into line with those charged by London Borough of Brent with whom the council share management of the registration service.

Prices for Sunday services and weddings at approved premises already match fees charged by other boroughs and therefore no changes have been made.
