A MILL Hill man is appealing for sponsorship as part of his attempt to run two marathons in a week for charity.

Pete Morgan, 32, of Sanders Lane, will be running more than 50 miles as he tackles both the London and Brighton marathons in early April in a bid to raise cash for Help for Heroes.

Mr Morgan said: “I wanted to do something different to help support the work of Help for Heroes.

“Running two marathons only one week apart will be an incredible challenge, but it's nothing compared to the challenges faced every day by our injured servicemen and women.”

“We see young guys coming back from Afghanistan with limbs missing and the positive attitude they have is amazing – they want to get back out there.”

“So the least I can is try to raise some money for them.”

The insurance compliance manager said that he hopes to raise £1500 for the charity, and has already collected more than £300.

Although Mr Morgan only started running marathons last year, completing the inaugural Brighton marathon, he said it was something he had always wanted to do.

“I've spoken to several top sports scientists - they think I'm mad. But they've given me incredible advice to help me get through it.

“I'm well in to my training, getting the miles in and preparing my legs for the challenge. All that I need now is for the fundraising total to rise – I'd love to see it go over £1500.”

Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help wounded soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
