TWO machines to prevent or reduce hair loss for patients receiving chemotherapy have been donated to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals.
Nurses were trained how to use the Orbis Paxman scalp cooling machines at Barnet Hospital in Wellhouse Lane yesterday.
Provided by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, the machine works by lowering the temperature of the head and scalp before, during and after chemotherapy.
This can prevent or minimise the damage caused to hair follicles, meaning hair loss could be avoided.
Nina Barough, founder and chief executive of the charity said: “I know personally how much integrated care helped me on my journey through breast cancer so I am delighted that Walk the Walk has made this very special donation to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital.
“It is extra special to be able to see our fundraising efforts go to such a worthwhile cause within our local area and I know women are going to benefit from the scalp cooling treatment.”
The machines are portable and therefore can be used at both Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield.
