I read with interest ‘Council fails to deliver goods’, (Your Views, February 3).
The letter refers to the idea of Barnet Council setting up a voluntary scheme whereby grit supplies are administered by residents.
Your readers may be pleased to know such a project is already in place in Barnet, and is successfully encouraging communities to come together and make a difference.
Barnet Pledgebank, a dedicated website launched by Barnet Council in January, allows residents to make a pledge and seek volunteers to join in. Among the pledges we’ve received so far, are offers to clear litter and improve the appearance of a local area in return for free refreshments at a local event. The council has also offered to provide a grit bin after receiving a pledge from one resident to grit her street if other volunteers join in.
