STUDENTS from a school in Colindale have been learning about issues surrounding violent extremism.
Year ten pupils at St. James' High School, in Great Strand, were visited by police officers from the Met's Prevent Team last Tuesday.
The teenagers got an insight into the dangers of terrorism, the role of police and the wider communities’ role in challenging extremism.
They were also asked to plan a counter terrorism operation in response to a fictional terrorist incident.
John Knibb, head of year ten, said: “This was very informative; our pupils got actively involved and enjoyed the day. Exercises like this help establish links between police and the school. This also gave an insight in the difficult job the police do.”
The Met's prevent team was aided on the day by schools officer, Michael Wallace, who worked closely with the pupils in the counter-terrorism exercise.
