YOUNGSTERS held a special sleepover at a Potters Bar school to celebrate the 25th birthday of Beaver Scouts last Saturday, February 12.

Children from the Potters Bar & District groups enjoyed a special night of activities at The Wroxham School, in Wroxham Gardens.

The evening began at 7pm when 55 Beavers were given recycled materials to create a pretend birthday cake.

They were then entertained by a magician who performed tricks and illusions, even 'floating' one of the youngsters.

Cake and biscuit decorating was followed by a short disco and games, which took the children up to bed time. They settled in for the night with a hot chocolate and story.

Beaver leader, Margaret Roper, said: “For some children this was their first experience of sleeping away from home. They all said what fun they had and once the leaders have recovered we might even do it again.”

During the evening one member of the 2nd Little Heath & Potters Bar group was presented with a signed letter from Bear Grylls, for achieving his Bronze Scout Award, the highest award a Beaver can attain.

Charles Dace, district commissioner, made the presentation and congratulated all the Beavers in the district who had also gained their Bronze Awards.
