A PUBLIC meeting has been called to look at plans to sell off a playing field in East Finchley.
Barnet Council's cabinet resources committee agreed in November to look at disposing of the Stanley Road site by selling the freehold.
Residents fear this could signal a sell-off to private developers and housing built on the site.
Now members of the Finchley Community Development Trust (FCDT) have arranged a meeting tomorrow night to garner support to keep the land in public hands.
Roger Chapman, the chair of the FCDT has said: “Barnet Council has neglected this playing field for many years.
“It needs to be maintained and brought back into sports use for local people. In winning the Olympic bid, we were promised that it would benefit local communities.
“Rejuvenating this field could be East Finchley’s Olympic legacy”.
The meeting is being held between 7.30pm and 9pm at Eagans School, Kitchener Road, East Finchley, and is open to all.
