Adrian Murray-Leonard is not the only disillusioned former Hendon Conservative (‘The Tories are out of touch’, Times Series, January 20).
I too was a member of Hendon Conservatives for many years; was chairman of West Hendon Ward Conservatives; and stood twice as a Conservative candidate in local elections, each time winning more votes for the Conservative party. Yet I left the Conservatives to join UKIP, because in my opinion, the Conservative party under David Cameron has lost both its principles and its integrity.
For me, the final straw was when David Cameron reneged on his promise to hold a referendum on the Lisbon treaty. If a man can renege on his promise to the British people, he is not fit to be a British Prime Minister.
The British public evidently see through David Cameron. Thus at a time of massive recession, massive deficits and the collapse in banking, the Conservative party should have had an easy win in the May 2010 General Election.
Instead, all they could manage was a hung parliament.
