How much longer are Barnet taxpayers going to put up with the extraordinary behaviour of our councillors?
Democracy and consultation are two words neither councillors nor council officers understand. Meetings are run for the benefit of councillors and council staff and members of the public have little or no opportunity for any input. The behaviour of certain councillors is not only disgraceful, but rude, and there does not seem to be any code of conduct to adhere to.
I have been to several Barnet Council meetings in the past month and the attitude is: “We make the rules and you have to put up with them”. One councillor at the recent meeting on parking said, “If you can’t afford the charges, you should leave the borough”. We all know economies have to be made — and it would be a good idea to start with the pay and allowances awarded to councillors, and less spent on so-called consultants who only cost us all money in the long run — but why should the taxpayers, have to pay for Barnet’s inept investment of our money?
We must not accept this behaviour any longer and stand up for our rights and continue to question the council’s lack of consultation on every issue.
