THE Cypriot education minister visited a Greek school based in East Barnet at the weekend.
Andreas Demetriou was joined by Chipping Barnet MP, Theresa Villiers and around 400 schoolchildren, parents and staff in an assembly at the Hellenic School of High Barnet, which is based at East Barnet Lower School, in Chestnut Grove.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays students aged between four and 18 are taught Greek as a second language and learn about the culture of the Greek community.
After a tour of the school Mr Demetriou said he was impressed with its facilities, including new computers and an auditorium.
He spoke about his dedication to improving the children’s learning experience and presented chairman Chris Papa with a laptop to demonstrate his commitment to providing essential teaching services.
The children had a chance to practice their Greek as they chatted with the education minister and sang him a traditional song.
Mr Papa said: “It was a fantastic day – I think Mr Demetriou realised how committed we all are to delivering this education.
“He gave us some good feedback and I’m sure he will help us in the future.”
