YOUTH clubs have been opened on two housing estates to help combat boredom.
Activities began at a group in the Fosters estate in Hendon on February 1, with a second due to open at the North Road estate, in Burnt Oak, from March 18.
The initiative is the result of consultation with residents by housing association Barnet Homes. It highlighted people's concerns over youngsters loitering in the area.
Chief executive Tracy Lees said: “If you go to pretty much any housing estate in the country and ask adults what their concerns are, they’re likely to tell you they’re worried about youths hanging around. Ask the young people, and they’ll say there isn’t enough for them to do.
“We hope the new youth clubs will go some way to addressing the concerns of both groups.
We want young people on our estates to feel positive about where they live and engage with their local community. Youth clubs can make a real difference.
The club at the Fosters estate runs every Tuesday from 4.30pm to 8.30pm at Cheshire Hall, in Foster Street, for an initial six week trial.
The North Road Estate club will open for a six week trial from 4.30pm to 8.30pm every Friday at the North Road Community Centre in Burnt Oak Broadway.
