A GIRL was presented with a certificate and hundreds of pounds for her voluntary work at a youth group in Mill Hill.
Diana Grant-Davie from Woodside Park was one of 90 young people to be awarded the Jack Petchey Achievement Award at a ceremony at Arts Depot, North Finchley on Wednesday, February 9.
Jack Petchey OBE, 85, started the foundation in 1999 to give grants to programmes which benefit young people aged between 11 and 25-years-old and to encourage their involvement in the community.
Diana, 15, is a young leader at the Fourth Mill Hill Rainbow Unit in Flower Lane for girls aged between five and seven-years-old and received the award for her dedication to the group.
At the weekly Monday sessions Diana organises various activities including baking and sewing and she recently gave a talk on healthy eating to encourage the girls to include more fruit and vegetables in their diet.
As well as a framed certificate Diana received a medallion and a cheque for £200 which she spent on craft material including colouring pens and sequins, and baking equipment such as bowls and spoons for the club.
She said: “I am honoured, grateful and so lucky.
“All that help and support we get from Jack Petchey really does do good.”
Diana’s mum, Marilyn Kendall who is also a leader at the Rainbow Unit, said: “She’s such a good role model and it is fantastic to see young people being recognised for their positive achievements in the community.
“Seeing her get the award was a very proud moment – I had goose bumps throughout the whole event.”
