A CHARITY in Finchley aims to help more servicemen and servicewomen in the borough after successfully raising £500 for a man who was injured in Afghanistan.
A Call to Arms fights unjust policy or legislation against people in the military and set up an online auction in aid of 27-year-old Aron Shelton.
Mr Shelton is a former soldier who left the army two years ago after losing his lower leg and received the benefit of a specially adapted car.
However, as he is able to walk 400 metres his disability allowance was withdrawn and the car will be taken away this month.
Following an appeal case Mr Shelton receives just £18 a week but he continues to campaign against the decision.
The charity auctioned a range of items including etchings of the last two British survivors of World War One, Henry Allingham and Harry Patch and the money raised will go towards the Justice for Aron Shelton campaign.
Chairman of the charity, Paul Binks said: “Having finally met Aron he revealed himself to be the quintessential humble soldier who is looking for nothing but equality.
“We want to reach out to anyone in the borough involved in the military who might be in a similar situation.
“This could be anything from an unfair withdrawal of benefits to them not being given the right to live in local authority housing.”
