A MAN who left a glove behind at the scene of a burglary has been jailed after DNA linked him to the crime.

Charles Haywood, 43, pleaded guilty to the offence in Rushgrove Avenue, Colindale and was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Wood Green Crown Court on Thursday, February 3.

The court was told there was only a one in a billion chance the DNA recovered from the glove was not his.

Haywood of Ash Close, Edgware also pleaded guilty to a second burglary in Oakmead gardens, Edgware.

He broke a window to gain entry and blood recovered at the scene was matched to his DNA.

The crimes were committed in November 2010 whilst Haywood was fuelled by addictions to drugs and alcohol.

As well as taking a bottle of scotch he targeted electrical equipment and stole laptops, flat screen TVs and cameras costing around £1,600 in total.

Mike Paton of Barnet Criminal Investigation Department said: “I hope this conviction will show Barnet residents that such crime will be thoroughly investigated.

“The good work by our forensic teams meant Haywood was quickly arrested and faced overwhelming evidence at court.

“He is a prolific offender and the custodial sentence imposed is deserved, reflecting the fear misery and loss that people like Haywood inflict.”
