THE MP for Finchley and Golders Green has had a claim for travel expenses for one of his staff members turned down, the latest round of Parliamentary expenses released reveals.

Mike Freer, who was elected last May, tried to claim the £5.20 in August for one of his staff members to travel to a training course, but had it turned down under the new scheme.

A statement from Mr Freer said the claim was not rejected but wrongly submitted under training expenses and paid when it was resubmitted as a travel expense.

The figures also show Mr Freer has spent nearly £60 attaching an awning to his camper van which he uses as a mobile surgery in the constituency.

He has also spent more than £6,000 on rent on the Ballards Lane constituency office and claimed back £20 worth of refreshments for constituents on various dates.

Hendon MP Matthew Offord had a quieter quarter, with claims for stationery for his office and business cards, as well as £269 for a casework course for his Parliamentary staff.

Among claims from Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers are £23 on “sticky notes and pens” and £440 on a new computer monitor.
