GENEROUS shoppers in Brent Cross donated over one thousand tins of food to homeless people at the weekend.

Members of the Rotary Club of Golders Green invited customers at Tesco supermarket in Tilling Road to purchase an extra tin for Homeless Action in Barnet in Woodside Road, North Finchley.

The rotary club is made up of volunteers who organise community projects to tackle issues such as violence, drug abuse and poverty and have held this particular event for around six years.

President of the club, Ian Addleson said: “It is so reassuring to see the public’s generosity, so willingly given.

“Some people arrive with a bag full of tins, as many as six and sometimes more – and we only ask for one.

“The tins have gone to the centre where the homeless get warmth, food and companionship and the staff are selfless in their care and attention towards the needy.”

The club’s next tin collection will be at Colney Hatch Tesco in North Circular Road, North Finchley on Saturday April 9.
