PUPILS became thriving entrepreneurs as they successfully turned a profit from £5 at a school event in Colindale.

As part of The Enterprise Project, 12 youngsters from Colindale Primary School in Poolsford Road set up their own businesses and competed against one another in a Table Top Sale.

The children were sponsored £5 each by Waitrose supermarket in Brent Cross and were given the challenge to come up with their own business ideas using the money to turn a profit.

The pupils, who are aged between seven and 11, were allowed to keep the £5 and any proceeds will go to the charities of their choice.

The businesses were put to the test at a bring-and-buy sale organised by the school’s Parent Teacher Association.

Parents paid £10 for a table to sell their goods, but after negotiating with the PTA the children paid just £2.50.

One girl in Year Six ran a Sweets for You stall and has decided to give her profit of £24.35 to Evelina Children's Hospital in Southwark, where her brother regularly has treatment.

Marvellous Milkshakes was run by four pupils aged between seven and eight who are currently deciding which charity to give their profit of £27.78.

Cakery was run by three pupils, two aged ten and one aged seven.

They made a £44.80 profit and have decided to split the money between Children in Need, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the PTA.

The most successful company was ‘Tetron Kids’ who set up a lucky dip stall.

The group made £62.21 profit and are sending their money to Great Ormond Street, Children in Need and a cancer charity.

Head teacher Philippa Kunick said: "The event was a huge success and our PTA raised the most they have ever raised before. All the Enterprise children did incredibly well."
