BUSINESSES in Potters Bar could earn extra cash this Christmas by joining a community toilet scheme that allows the public to use facilities without having to buy anything.
Hertsmere Borough Council are offering up to £1000 for shops, cafes, pubs and other premises in High Street and Darkes Lane, to come forward and apply to join.
After a successful run in Borehamwood, the council is looking to reduce the cost of maintaining traditional public and automated toilets in the rest of the borough.
Councillor Jean Heywood, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: "I hope businesses will jump at the chance to earn some extra money in the current financial climate.
“It is a great scheme and a win-win situation for both shoppers and shopkeepers - shoppers will have clean and safe convenient facilities to use and shopkeepers will get an annual fee as well as increased footfall which can boost sales."
The amount of money a business receives depends on what they can offer. Those able to provide separate male and female toilets, disabled toilets and baby changing facilities will get the full £1000.
Participating businesses will be identified by special window stickers.
