STARS of a Potters Bar pantomime were joined by more than 200 residents to light a Christmas tree in Brookmans Park last Saturday.

Organised by Brookmans Park Rotary Club, the annual event attracted a large crowd at Bradmore Green to see Stuart Nurse and David O'Mahoney from Wyllyotts Theatre's Sleeping Beauty, make the “big switch-on”.

Santa also joined in the celebrations as he slid in on his sleigh to give out early Christmas presents.

Rotary Club members and local shopkeepers served free mulled wine, hot chocolate, hot dogs and mince pies, which were donated by Michael's Butchers, Brookmans Bakery and Tesco.

The evening was rounded off with carol singing accompanied by the Potters Bar Town Band.

More than £600 was also raised through a charity raffle, which will go to local charities Isabel Hospice and The Willow Foundation.

Rotarian Martin Collins said: “We would like to thank North Mymms Parish Council for providing funds for the tree and for granting permission for the use of the green.

"A big thank you to all those who took part for their support.”
