As someone very much interested over many years in sport in Barnet, it is interesting and encouraging news to learn of the latest hopes and proposals for the main Copthall Stadium which has seen much better days, and has been in need of repair, renovation and modernisation for some years.
So far, it sounds very opportune to have an excellent stadium and facilities offered for a major rugby club Saracens and senior athletic club Shaftesbury Harries, but so far nothing has been said about traffic generation, access and parking for say some 3,000 vehicles on a good match day.
As we all know promoters of developments and even councils usually seem to underestimate the number of vehicles and movements etc generated by proposed developments. Remember the Seventies and Brent Cross? It’s essential that the answers to these questions are known before the dreams are further considered.
