YOUNGSTERS used the appliance of science at an event in Hendon this week.

More than 300 students visited Middlesex University in The Burroughs for the Digital Futures event, aimed at encouraging more young people to study science.

More than ten colleges and schools attended the event, including Whitefield School in Cricklewood, Woodhouse College in Finchley and East Barnet School in East Barnet.

The young scientists learnt about how computer games are designed and how robots are produced which dance and move like spiders.

Osman Nur, a teacher from Whitefield School, said: “The students were all very excited about the taster sessions, especially the workshops on game designing and programming games.

“They appreciated finding out about the different courses they can choose at Middlesex University, how ICT is taught in universities and the possible careers in the ICT industry.”

Event co-ordinator Dr Serengul Smith said: “School pupils or college students often come to us saying maths can be boring or science is difficult – but when they see what we do they realize it’s fun."
