CRACKS in a Golders Green road and vibrations from passing traffic have left residents claiming the poorly-maintained surface has damaged their homes.
Anna-Marisa Smargiassi, a resident of Pennine Drive for 30 years, says she has complained to Transport for London and Barnet Council about the state of the road since 2005.
She claims the road is not only a hazard to both drivers and pedestrians, but has caused noise pollution and disturbance to other residents.
Miss Smargiassi said: “The road needs to be resurfaced – I can actually feel the house vibrate when a vehicle goes over it.
“When I’m sat at the dinner table I can feel it shake, things rattle in the display cabinet and it’s worse when I’m trying to sleep at night. I get about three hours peace and that’s between 1.30am and 4.30am.”
One resident who has also lived on the road for 30 years said: "The council has filled in some of the holes since the bad weather last winter, but it’s been done shoddily. "My whole house used to shake before the holes were filled – since then it’s better but I still feel a thud when heavy traffic goes by."
Two bus routes and lorries also use the residential road.
Abla Ghazi, who has lived in Pennine Drive for three-and-a-half years with her two children, agreed that the road needed to be better maintained.
She said: “I don’t have a problem with the buses – I don’t drive so I need them to take my children to school – but I do think the road is dangerous and needs to be repaired.”
A spokesman for the council said: "Inspectors have visited Pennine Drive after receiving correspondence from Miss Smargiassi and on each occasion the road has not warranted resurfacing works. "Following a recent separate borough-wide inspection of the road network, Pennine Drive has been earmarked for minor surface repairs which we expect to be completed by mid-December.
"In the meantime highways teams will continue to monitor the area."
