A GROUP of students are planning to repeat a march on the offices of Finchley and Golders Green MP Mike Freer after he said a previous march was a Labour rally.

More than 100 sixth formers from across the borough marched on the Ballards Lane offices of the Tory MP two weeks ago in protest at government plans to raise tuition fees.

Following the demonstration, where some youngsters symbolically threw their shirts at the building, Mr Freer claimed it had been organised by the local Labour party, as the rally was addressed by its leader Councillor Alison Moore.

In response to this, organiser Alex Clayman, 16, said he has put together another march scheduled for Friday.

He told the Times Series: “It's clearly not a Labour-led thing, there were dozens of people from all sorts of backgrounds many of who are not politically active.

“It's good he said what he did as we clearly got to him with what we did, so hopefully he will take notice and vote against it.”

The Finchley Catholic High School pupil said he wanted it to pass off peacefully again, saying “unfortunate” elements had turned violent at the demonstrations in central London.

He added: “I think it's better to keep them smaller. If we have lots of smaller, well-planned marches it will have as much affect as the big ones.”

Students are set to meet at Tally Ho Corner from 4.30pm on Friday.
