YOUNG dancers from Finchley put their best feet forward and showed off their talents at an arts showcase in London.

The talented teens from artsdepot, in Nether Street, joined forces with Winchmore School, in Enfield and north London arts organisation Tiger Monkey UK to dance at the fifth anniversary of Arts Award, held at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London.

The young people involved in the event on Tuesday, November 16, are working towards their Arts Award, which is a national qualification to help develop creative talents.

The students, members of Tiger Monkey and artsdepot’s Roots and Wings group, joined other young people from Arts Award centres across the capital to demonstrate their skills in a scratch dance company.

Emerging from the crowd in a flash mob style, the youngsters performed a dance they had rehearsed over three weekends under the guidance of award-winning choreographer Luca Silvestrini from Protein Dance.

Television presenter Ben Shephard, the evening’s host and Arts Award champion, said: “The young performers involved were phenomenal and, in many cases, without the support of Arts Award and their advisers they might never have discovered their brilliant talents.

“Arts Award is bringing the world of the arts and creative industries to life for young people across the country and I’m proud to support them in doing so.”

The qualification can be gained through any art medium including everything from writing, directing, performing and painting to web design or stage lighting.

Diana Walton, head of arts award development, arts council England said: “I am so proud of all the young artists who have been involved in Arts Award over the past five years and look forward to seeing many more develop and gain recognition for their creativity and artistic talent in the future.”
