GRITTING crews were out in action last night to make sure the borough’s main routes and transport hubs remained open regardless of snowy conditions.
With road temperatures expected to reach minus seven Celsius by the end of the week, gritting crews have been out throughout the night and will be out again today.
The council has advised residents to stick to main routes and take extra care as roads and pavements could be icy.
A couple of schools have been affected by the cold weather, but as of yet the snow has not prompted any schools to close.
St James Catholic High in Great Strand, Colindale, was closed yesterday and is closed today due to lack of heating.
Fairway Primary school in The Fairway, Mill Hill, closed yesterday due to frozen pipes but has reopened today.
Brookland Infant and Junior School in Elm Drive, Cheshunt, is closed today due to lack of electricity.
