ADULT care provided by Barnet Council has been classed as “excellent” according to a new healthcare report.

The Care Quality Commission uprated the adult social services department from a rating of performing “well” last year, based on an assessment of the performance over the past 12 months.

Facets of the council's work singled out for praise included the consultation with service users and the “clear vision” of the department in work with other authorities including the NHS.

The way the department handles its budgets and the levels at which services are provided for the most vulnerable were also noted.

Councillor Sachin Rajput, cabinet member for adults, said: "The findings provide us with a sound base as we continue to provide effective adult social services at a time when the council is facing significant financial challenges.

"The excellent rating acknowledges the hard work already being carried out by our staff as they strive to deliver services in an increasingly innovative way."
