BARNET'S Labour leader has accused the council of “back of the fag packet estimates” in their plans to save £100 million in ten years.
This week the council published a framework for the One Barnet project, formerly known as Future Shape, which it claims will save millions after an initial outlay of £9m.
There have also been attacks on the council for spending millions of pounds on consultants to get the project, which could see many services outsourced to private contractors.
Councillor Alison Moore attacked the projections in the framework, saying: “Once again we have back of the fag packet budget estimates, for a so-called efficiency programme that will cost £9.2m.
“On their previous and current track record of missing savings targets it’s not clear they will make any of these savings, but what is clear is that the consultants will once again be raking it in.
“When will local residents see any benefit from this discredited programme?”
