YOUNGSTERS have donated their hair to a charity which makes wigs for children with cancer.
Twenty-six girls aged five to 17 had their hair cut off at an event at HOB salon in Temple Fortune, on Wednesday, November 17.
The annual event, run by Zichron Menachem, a non-profit organisation aimed at easing the suffering of young cancer patients and their families, recycles the hair and turns it into wigs for Israeli children who have lost their hair through cancer.
Each wig is made up of around 15 30cm braids of hair.
As well as donating their hair, the girls, who mostly attend schools in Barnet, raised more than £10,000 towards the cost of making the wigs.
The money will also fund activities the charity organises.
Dina Tangi and Talia Rosenthal, coordinators of the Hair Care project, said: “Tonight was a really amazing night, the atmosphere was buzzing. “Apart from the happiness these fantastic volunteers will bring to those less fortunate, what they have shown tonight in HOB is truly a lesson in alternative giving.”
Eli Seliger, chairman of ZMUK, said: “Zichron Menachem is grateful to all the participants, the staff of HOB, the beauticians and photographer who all gave their services free of charge.”
“We are fortunate to have such good friends who have all contributed to help bring a smile to a sick child’s face.”
This annual event has become so popular that the spaces were filled by word of mouth alone. For more information or to register for the 2011 pampering party contact Zichron Menachem on 020 8731 8150.
