A HUGE polar bear, The Snowman and a ping pong juggler joined the Mayor of Barnet to officially launch the Christmas season at the borough's biggest shopping centre yesterday.
Dozens of families congregated at Brent Cross to see the official switch on of the festive illuminations, including a huge white Christmas tree.
Activities happened throughout the afternoon and included Bjorn, a life-sized polar bear puppet which fascinated youngsters and a guest appearance from TV favourite The Snowman.
The whole event was compered by ping-pong juggler Rod Laver, who entertained families with his antics throughout.
Cllr Finn said: “It's was a really nice afternoon and a lovely event. It's a privilege to be asked to launch the festivities this year at the centre.
“I hope everyone embraces the spirit of the season and makes this period very special this year.”
After the switch on Cllr Finn was joined by Father Christmas for the official opening of his grotto in the centre, with a donation made to Cash for Kids for each present given away.
