A POLICE cordon is still in place around the scene of a suspected assassination of a Pakistani politician more than four days after the murder.
Worried residents say there has been a flurry of police activity around Green Lane, Edgware, over the weekend since the killing of Dr Imran Farooq outside his family flat on Thursday evening.
Dr Farooq, a leading member of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), was stabbed to death in broad daylight by a man described as Asian in appearance.
The party, Pakistan's third largest, is staunchly anti-Taliban leading to fears this may have been carried out by the extremist Muslim group as a warning.
Officers from Scotland Yard's counter terrorism unit are now on the scene and specialist equipment is being brought in to flush drains in the street in the hunt for the murder weapon.
Flowers have also been placed at the scene by Dr Farooq's family and friends.
Avnita Malde, who lives opposite the scene of the killing, said the whole incident had been “scary” for everyone living nearby.
The resident of 28 years said: “It's definitely very scary, we had no idea someone like that was even living in the street. It's always so quiet around here.
“There's been a lot of police and a lot of forensic officers here looking for clues over the weekend. It's been really busy.
“Yesterday, a large group of people came up here and placed the flowers outside the house. It's quite scary thinking it could be tied with terrorism.”
