WALLABIES thought extinct just a few decades ago have had a joey at a children's farm in Mill Hill.
The Parma wallabies, which were considered for more than six decades until a small colony was found in Australia in the early 60s, have had the baby at Belmont Children's Farm in The Ridgeway The species is smaller than the more common Bennetts Wallaby, which are also at the farm and both parents are just a year old.
Tamsyn Larkins, farm manager said: "We were thrilled to see a tiny head popping out of the female wallaby's pouch. It came as a very welcome and happy surprise.
“We hope that families visiting the farm this father's day will enjoy the added attraction of this new animal family.”
She is also hoping for more new arrivals in the next few weeks as the pair of Snowy Owls have begun nesting.
