A FINCHLEY-based guitarist is hoping for some World Cup success of his own with the release of a supporters song with voice of Bob the Builder Neil Morrissey.
Brian 'Nasher' Nash, the former guitarist with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, wrote the lyrics for the song England's on the Way, based on the tune of The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
The group are hoping the song spurs on the squad in South Africa as they make their bid to lift the cup for the first time since 1966.
Liverpool born Nasher said: “I got involved with it through a couple of mates who worked on a TV show with Neil where he drove to South Africa with a lorry load of beer.
“He said he wanted to create a World Cup anthem and they put him in touch with me. We recorded the song in my mate's house and then had a day recording Neil's vocals and the video.
“England have one of the best squads at the tournament and some really creative players, so I just hope they can fire at the right time and not let us down.”
The 47-year-old, who was part of only the second band to have their first three singles go to number one in the UK, hopes the tune, featured on the England 2010 compilation album, will be a hit..
He told the Times Series: “Neil was a good guy to work with. He already has three UK number ones as well but hew also has an Ivor Novello Award which I don't.
“A friend of mine has a son who's a huge Bob the Builder fan and at the end I had to ask him to record a special message for him, but he was cool about it.”
The Liverpool fan admitted he had shunned watching Saturdays England match at the pub as he feared it would be “too hectic” and admitted it was a bit disappointing.
He said he was also considering buying a Barnet FC season ticket next season after the Bees narrowly avoided relegation last season.
