A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out a robbery at a bus stop in East Finchley yesterday.
The 18-year-old man, said by police to be from the East Finchley area, is alleged to have approached a 31-year-old man close to St Pancras Cemetery, in High Road, at about 8.30pm.
The suspect asked the victim for a cigarette before assaulting him and demanding money, police said.
According to a Barnet police statement, the robber, described as white, 6ft 1” tall with short blonde hair, then punched the bus stop “causing his hand to bleed quite badly”.
Officers took a description of the man and were able to trace him later in the evening.
His hand was checked for injuries and police arrested him on suspicion of robbery at 9.15pm.
The man remains in police custody at a north London police station while he waits for a decision on whether he will be charged.
Police said officers are continuing to gather evidence on the case.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information should contact Barnet police on 0300 123 1212 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
