AN EDGWARE synagogue has been hailed as a beacon of good governance in a report by the Charities Commission.
Edgware and District Reform Synagogue, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, were featured as a case study in the Faith in Good Governance report.
The featured point is on the way the synagogue reviews it's governing rules, called The Laws, which have been gradually amended since being laid down in 1954.
In 2008 a committee was set up to look at the rules and in 2009 they presented amendments, which included changes to the expenditure limits to a special meeting where they were passed by members of the synagogue.
It comes at the same time as two events to celebrate the anniversary, which included a Civic Service where leading council officials celebrated with the community in the grounds of the synagogue.
At a celebratory Sabbath service with guests from the Christian, Hindu and Muslim community were invited to celebrate with the community before partaking in an informal Chavurah style lunch.
