Fashion forgot the family band.
The stylish Jackson Five came first, closely followed by the popular Osmonds, but in recent times only the one-hit wonders Hanson brothers who hit number one in the late Nineties with Mmmbop have flown the flag for singing siblings.
The Edmondson family from Finchley might just be the blood relatives to get the family band's heart beating once more. The six brothers and sisters who range in age from 16 to 23 have formed a group, Sextet, who are due to perform at Burgh House in Hampstead tomorrow evening.
The songbird six perform acapella versions of pop songs, gospel songs, standards, showtunes and even a bit of ABBA thrown into the mix. They also play piano, guitar and harp.
Eat that, Von Trapp children.
"Sometimes one of us will just start singing and another will be in another room and respond, and we all start singing together, " said Claire, 22.
"My friends think it's funny. Although I think the neighbours are concerned that we are a mad family. But I'm used to it by now, so I don't really care."
The family Dominic, 23; Claire, 22; Lucy, 20; twins Catherine and Ruth, both 19; and 16-year-old Jane are all students, and all attended the New London Children's Choir where each discovered their particular passion for music. But it wasn't until last year when a friend of the family noticed that the Edmondson gene pool was particularly talented that they decided to take their act to the stage.
"Once we started doing it we realised how much we enjoy all performing together," said Ruth. "It's a bonding thing. We all get on well, and despite a couple of arguments, it's fun."
Sextet will be performing tomorrow at 7.30pm at Burgh House, New End Square, Hampstead.
