The first thing you notice when you walk into Oregano is the amazing decoration.

Handpainted Turkish ceramics and lanterns made from twinkling mosaics of stained glass are suspended from the ceiling which, when combined with the candle-lit tables, create a very romantic and cosy atmosphere.

Oregano specialises in Mediterranean cuisine, and with a delicious mixture of Italian, Greek and Turkish food, there is something for everyone. Mehmet Alagoz, Oregano's owner, says that they have an Italian pizza chef and a Greek chef working in the kitchen, which explains the delicious mix of choices on the menu.

For starters there are lots of meze-style dishes, including stuffed vine leaves, filo parcels filled with creamy feta and spinach, grilled halloumi cheese, and delicately flavoured chicken livers.

The huge range of main courses reflects the international nature of the two chefs, with pasta and some great hand-made pizzas sitting beside Turkish lamb kofte (minced lamb with onions and fresh herbs) and more traditional dishes like peppered steak. They also offer a mouthwatering selection of fish dishes, such as salmon and sea bass as well as a good range of vegetarian dishes.

Oregano is a great place to get together with friends. In fact a note at the bottom of the menu says that they take bookings for all sorts of parties, including birthdays, hen nights and divorce parties - so take your pick.

Mehmet says that, in keeping with the Turkish elements of the menu, they like to encourage people who are celebrating their birthday or hen night to try their hand at a bit of belly dancing. Mehmet himself is happy to give demonstrations and will supply any willing volunteers with a sparkly scarf to wrap around their hips to help them get in the mood. But if you are too shy to strut your stuff in public, there is no pressure and Oregano makes an equally good venue for a romantic dinner for two.

Oregano is open seven days a week from 12pm to 11pm.
