With its Mediterranean atmosphere and great Turksih cuisine, The Grill Bar is a fantastic new addition to Southgate's dining out scene.

The bright, spacious, modern interior and sunny front terrace, complete with palm trees make this a stylish place to enjoy some of the best Turkish food this side of Istanbul.

Since opening its doors four months ago, The Grill Bar has already built up a loyal customer base and owner Ibrahim Cegniz says that it's reputation is growing fast. Inbrahim, who has designed every aspect of the restaurant himself, believes that attention to detail is an essential element of the Grill Bar's success and has gone to great lenghts to make sure that even the cutlery fits perfectly with his designs.

Although he is only 26-years old, Ibrahim is a confident business man who is justifiably proud of his achievements. "I have had some luck," he admits, "but I would say that it has been about 10 per cent luck and 90 per cent hard work."

It is clear that the hard work has indeed paid off. All of the food is prepared to an extremely high standard using only the best quality fresh ingredients, at very reasonable prices.

During my visit, I tried the Grill Special, which is great value for money at £14.45 per person (minimum of 2 people). Beginning with a selection of meze-style cold starters, I dug into delicious Turkish dips such as hummus and taramasalata, dolma (stuffed vine leaves), and some wonderful Ispanak Tarator, a combination of yoghurt, mint and spinach.

The cold dishes were followed by some equally delicious hot starters. Freshly made falafal, grilled halloumi cheese and rolls of filo pastry filled with feta were just too tasty to turn down. These were accompanied by some fantastic lamb kofta, minced lamb patties, delicately flavoured with mint. And remember, these were just the starters!

For the main course, I was presented with a mixed grill of marinated chicken shish, succulent lamb shish, chicken wings and grilled lamb chops. All the meat is cooked in traditional Turkish style on an open grill which gives it a wonderful chargrilled flavour and makes it meltingly tender. The mixed grill was served with rice and salad with a choice of olive oil or chilli dressing.

Finally I was served a beautiful plate of fresh fruit which was the perfect way to cleanse the palate after the richness of the meat.

With great service and a relaxed atmosphere, the grill bar is the perfect place to spend an evening - but make sure you take a big appetite as you won't want to leave a thing.
