A series of road signs, some emblazoned with the council's logo, have recently appeared in the north of the borough warning of the forthcoming reconstruction of the Ridgeway near to junction 24 of the M25.

Each sign clearly states the major works will take place over a 1 kilometre stretch of the carriageway to the east of that key intersection. Pardon me for sounding stupid, but I thought that I lived in the United Kingdom - a nation in which all road signage relating to distance was still legally required to be shown in imperial units, i.e in yards and miles.

Is this 'metrification by stealth' the result of action by Euro-insurgents in the Civic Centre?
