As someone who appears rather well-informed, I am quite surprised Ms O'Ware failed to do her homework in respect of the laws surrounding treason (Letters, August 10).
I would like to take this opportunity to inform Ms O'Ware that the death penalty for treason was abolished on September 30, 1998, as per the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (Commencement no. 2 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1998 S2(g). An act of treason is now punishable by life imprisonment.
I politely urge Ms O'Ware to engage the use of the information systems to hand before enforcing her right to freedom of speech, as incorrect information may lead others to harbour misgivings about the community and larger soceity in which we live.
