Transport for London's A406 road safety and environmental improvement scheme is urgently needed to counter recorded, and hundreds of unrecorded, road accidents each year.
Autocratic inaction and avoidable long-term planning blight are unacceptable. Saying goodbye to New Southgate with a motorway would be disproportionate, unneighbourly and detrimental to the community.
Enfield Council should correct its failure to invite representatives from TfL, the Green Party and others to local meetings. Fragmentary gestures and hidden agendas are unacceptable and will not deliver optimum scheme results.
Councillors should not absent themselves. Participation and joined-up thinking are essential. Holistic agendas, courtesy and respect are required.
Effective representation and power sharing are vital, yet lacking.
To share power, Enfield councillors Brett or Georgiou should justly have an opportunity of becoming vice-chair of the area forum. Bowes ward councillors (on the Haringey's border) should be free to represent their electorate.
